+ If I am an existing patient or a new patient, do I have to choose either Core Health Membership or Premier Health Membership to be seen by the providers at Mint Health?
Yes, everyone, both existing and new patients, must have a membership to be a patient at Mint Health effective October 1, 2025. Prior to that date we will honor existing appointments and see patients as we have done. After that date all patients must have a membership to be seen by the providers at Mint Health. This decision was a very difficult one for all involved but a necessary one to continue to provide the type of care our patients seek us out for and our providers want to offer. Please consider watching this video where Dr Buchert explains the "why" behind Mint Health's changes to a Full Membership practice with a full effect date of October 1, 2025.
+ What is Functional Medicine (FM)?
The FM process is a research-based investigation into your unique biology. Through advanced, comprehensive testing, questioning, and personal attention, we aim to understand and improve the underlying drivers of your health issues.
+ Who is FM for?
FM is for anyone looking for a different way of addressing their health issues. We specialize in both GYN-focused and additional Non-GYN services. Please see our services list here.
+ What is the difference between Mint Health and a conventional medical office?
While we do handle your routine Gyn visits, FM is a personalized medicine. In our Functional Wellness memberships, we focus on a holistic approach to your concerns and wellness.
+ How does my insurance work at Mint Health?
We do take insurance for covered services. Insurance typically covers routine annuals, routine problem visits, routine lab work and medically indicated procedures and surgeries.
If your medical issue requires a visit to our office or a virtual visit, we will bill your insurance company for the visit. You will be responsible for any coinsurance, deductible or copay required by your insurance company. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can be used to offset the cost of any “qualified expense” not reimbursed by your insurance company.
In addition, we utilize a holistic approach requiring additional coaching which are considered uncovered services by insurance and beyond coverage of any insurance plan. For these uncovered services, we utilize a separate annual membership fee.
+ Will my insurance cover my annual membership fee?
No. The annual fee for membership at Mint Health pays for services not typically covered by your insurance and is not reimbursable by insurance.
We do offer both upfront and monthly pay options. We also accept Care Credit.
+ Why are there elements of my functional medicine care that cannot be billed to my insurance?
Because we utilize a holistic approach requiring additional coaching needs we are offering what insurance companies define as uncovered services and beyond coverage.
+ If I don’t sign up now, can I sign up later?
Certainly. However, membership will be closed once capacity is reached. At that time, we will establish a waiting list and take new members on a first-come, first-served basis.
+ Is there a limit to the number of members?
Since the goal is to have more coaching time with our patients during each visit, there is a finite number of members, but we are currently accepting new patients.
+ Can my husband join?
Our memberships are designed for women only; however, if you are already a member at Mint Health in Functional Medicine, your current plan will continue for the course of your current agreement.
+ If I have Medicare, can I join as a patient?
Certainly. However, just like with traditional insurance companies, we work for you. Thus, your membership fee cannot be submitted to Medicare for reimbursement. You may need to sign a waiver that declares that neither you nor Mint Health will directly bill Medicare for your membership fee with our practice. You can still use Medicare for specialists, labs, medications and services outside of our practice. Medicare and Medicare supplemental insurance will still cover medical costs that you incur outside of your membership fee here at Mint Health and elsewhere with outside providers. For example, prescriptions that you fill at an outside pharmacy, labs run at an outside lab, hospital charges, physical therapy, x-rays and scans, just to name a few, should be covered at their usual rate. You do not lose your Medicare coverage for other medical needs just because you are a patient of Mint Health.
+ Which provider will I see if I come to the clinic?
As a patient of Mint Health, you will see Elizabeth Buchert, MD, IFMCP or Renee Beyer Boudreaux, APRN, IFMCP depending on their availability and your type of visit. Both providers are board certified and have been IFM certified practitioners since 2017.
+ How can I get in touch if I have questions or issues?
You can always reach us through email messaging in your patient portal. If you have questions about starting your membership, please call Brittany at (225) 250-1025 ext. 4. Note: We are not an urgent care facility. We always attempt to answer calls and portal messages within the business day. If you haven’t received a response in a timely manner, please do give the front desk a call. When in doubt, go to urgent care or the emergency room. If you have a more significant issue that is beyond the ability to answer succinctly in a portal message or call, you may be asked to schedule an appointment to allow our providers to give you the proper attention and thought in answering you.
+ What is the best way to access the Patient Portal?
The easiest way to access the patient portal is through the Mint Health website. There is a link under the PATIENT tab that directs you to the portal without having to type the web address. Go to myminthealth.com and choose the “Patient” drop down menu. From there, choose “Patient Lab/Message Portal.” You may also elect to download the Healow app to your phone.
+ Can I pay per visit for functional medicine?
Our goal is to educate you and change your health for life, so we do not recommend singular functional medicine visits, as they are not effective for lasting results. However, if you would like an isolated extended cash pay functional health visit(s), our rate is $650 for 60min via telehealth appointment. **Please note this does not include ongoing messaging or follow up.
+ Do I have to do the labs you recommend?
No, but they are very helpful. Our goal is to make the FM process as accessible as possible. This process is geared at both understanding what the underlying drivers of your health problems are and finding the solutions that work for you. The way we try to figure out the underlying causes is through “differential diagnosis.” If you are familiar with the TV show “House,” you may be familiar with this term. It uses lab testing and analysis of your life and medical history as well as your response to therapies to try and understand what is going on in your body that is leading to your symptoms. (We are a LOT more gentle than House!) Labs give us important pieces of the puzzle. That being said, we can always do our best through analyzing both your past as well as your response to therapies to try and figure the underlying drivers of your health issues. Without labs, this process may just take longer and have more trial and error, so we would just ask for your patience and willingness to trial therapies.
+ Do I have to do all the recommended labs and action steps?
As with any health provider, the choice is always yours. Your health providers are your expert consultants in helping you make the most informed decisions regarding your health. We will do our best to help you prioritize testing and action steps and to support you in incorporating all the information from your health practitioners in making these decisions.
+ Why I am not seeing my labs on the portal?
Results that are not routine blood labs (which includes, stool, urine, saliva and some blood labs) will not be visible on the portal. These will be reviewed with you at your visit with one of our providers.
+ How can I pay my bill?
The best way to pay a bill is through the Mint Health website. Click on the PAY NOW button and you will be taken to our secure payment site. Be certain to complete all the blanks on each page and navigate through all the pages to the end. You may also elect to pay directly through the portal if you receive a statement. You can also send a check through the mail.
